SYMBOL OF HONOUR delivered a standout performance on Saturday in the colours of Godolphin, storming to victory in the Highclere Castle Gin Stakes, L. at Newbury. The three-year-old colt showcased both class and determination to secure the Listed prize over six furlongs in impressive fashion under William Buick on the Good to Firm surface.
Travelling powerfully throughout, the Charlie Appleby–trained grey gelding quickened decisively inside the final two furlongs and forged clear to win by 1¾ lengths from A P O’Brien’s Ides Of March, with Sayidah Dariyan rallying late to take third by a neck.
SYMBOL OF HONOUR extended his unbeaten six-furlong record to three wins from overall four starts this season. Buick remarked, “He picked up like a true pattern-class horse once asked and showed a willing attitude all the way to the line.” Appleby added, “William gave him a perfect ride. He’s a talented horse with plenty of scope for progression, and today’s performance suggests he could be competitive at Group level later this season.”
