In 1996, Marion and Philipp Stauffenberg started to breed under the name GRAF UND GRÄFIN STAUFFENBERG and boarded their mares and youngstock mainly in Ireland and the UK. Since 1999 most of their homebreds are born and raised at their farm at Schlossgut Itlingen, the former Gestüt Quenhorn.
Quality over quantity
With this approach, Philipp and Marion have developed a selected band of broodmares. Their offspring are sold at all the major sales in Europe, whilst some fillies are retained to continue breeding with their most successful families. The number of broodmares ranges mostly between five and ten and are nowadays mainly homebred, some in third generation already. They have bred a number of champions over the years – most recently the German Derby winner and Horse of the Year FANTASTIC MOON.

From here to the world
Up to the end of 2025 horses bred by GRAF UND GRÄFIN STAUFFENBERG have won more than 420 races more or less worldwide, mostly in England (123) but also in nearly all European countries, Australia, Hongkong, Japan, USA . They wear the colours of some of the leading owners like The Aga Khan, Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum, Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum, Coolmore, Godolphin, Wayne Hughes, Qatar Racing, George Strawbridge, Wildenstein and Yoshida.
