24/05/25 Symbol of Honour Captures Sandy Lane Stakes, Gr.2, Continuing Stellar 2025 Campaign

pinhooked by Stauffenberg Bloodstock and sold at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales

"SymbolofHonourHaydock.jpegThe 3yo SYMBOL OF HONOUR (by Havana Grey) continued his exceptional run of form with a powerful performance to land the Gr.2 Betfred Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock Park. Trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick for Godolphin, has now won four of his five starts in 2025, establishing himself as one of the leading sprinting prospects of the season.

After a confident ride from Buick, SYMBOL OF HONOUR launched his challenge in the final furlong, sweeping past Arabian Dusk to score by a length, with First Instinct back in third. The win followed his Listed success in the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury just seven days prior.

“He toughed it out and showed a good attitude,” commented assistant trainer Alex Merriam. “To win again so soon after Newbury speaks volumes about his constitution and class.”

We are proud to share that SYMBOL OF HONOUR, bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud, was pinhooked as a foal by STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK, raised and prepped at SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN, and later resold as a yearling at the tattersalls October Yearling Sales to Godolphin.

From an early stage, he showed the quality and professionalism that marked him as something special. His development at SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN laid the foundation for what is now a highly promising racing career at the highest level.

“From early on, he showed presence, scope and a great temperament,” said Philipp Stauffenberg. “It’s deeply gratifying to see him excel on the track for such esteemed connections. Our aim has always been to identify top-class prospects, and Symbol of Honour has justified that belief.”

Although ineligible for the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot due to being a gelding, SYMBOL OF HONOUR is likely to be aimed at major summer sprint targets, including the Gr.1 July Cup at Newmarket. With four wins from five starts this year, he is clearly on an upward trajectory.

We congratulate his owners and connections at Godolphin and the team at Moulton Paddocks, the breeder Whitsbury Manor Stud and look forward to following his continued success on the international stage.
