06/06/25 3yo King’s Charter Lands Doncaster Victory in Godolphin Blue

pinhooked by Stauffenberg Bloodstock and sold at the Goffs Orby Sales

Godolphin’s three-year-old KING´S CHARTER (Kingman – Dane Street) opened his account in style when running down 15 rivals at Doncaster last night. Ridden with confidence by Dougie Costello, the bay gelding quickened smartly inside the final furlong to score by three-quarters of a length from High Degree, with Hard Endeavor two lengths adrift in third on ground officially described as good. The 4/1 chance stopped the clock in 1 min 38.46 sec and earned £4,320 for the victory. Trained in Newmarket by Charlie Appleby for the royal-blue team, KING´S CHARTER had shown promise in two starts at two, finishing third at Sandown and fourth at Newbury, before returning to deliver on that early potential here. The colt’s journey to the winner’s enclosure began long before he reached Moulton Paddocks. Bred by Airlie Stud and Mrs S. Rogers, he was the headline lot at the 2022 Goffs November Foal Sale, where STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK secured him for €550,000. Re-offered at the Orby Sale, he realised €650,000 when knocked down to Godolphin, rewarding the pinhooking prowess of Philipp Stauffenberg. During the yearling-to-sale transition King’s Charter was raised at SCHLOSSGUT ITLINGEN, renowned for producing tough, athletic stock. Last night’s success suggests there is more to come. A tilt at Royal Ascot’s Britannia Stakes or a step up in grade later in the summer now beckons as Appleby plots a path through the season. Whatever the target, KING´S CHARTER has already delivered a good advertisement for both Godolphin’s faith and the Stauffenberg programme that nurtured him./short-note/?horse_id=
