01/12/12 Tattersalls December Foal Sales

difficult to buy and to sell

Tattersalls December Foal Sale is the most important sale of it's kind in Europe and buyers and breeders from all over the world flock into Newmarket either to buy or to watch what is going on. However it is the place to look at the offspring of the first crop of the stallions who stood their first season in 2011 and it is a chance to look for the new sires for 2013, which will be on service in Newmarket and the surrounding studs. It was obviously the first chance to see the mighty FRANKEL in his new role.
STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK was active as vendor and purchaser of foals. In a way both aims were difficult to fill. On the vendor side, it continues to be very very difficult to sell for a halfway decent prize unless you have have a standout pedigree or offspring of a "sexy" sire, who produces precocious looking stock. As there were colts by HIGH CHAPARRAL Lot 1223 and NAYEF Lot 1224 in the consignment, it was obviously difficult to fetch limelight prizes. Bothe foals wer sold to pinhookers, Lot 1223 for GNS26.000 to Paula Flannery and Lot 1224 for a mere GNS1.000 to Gerard Burke.
On the buyers side STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK managed to buy only one colt for a new pinhooking venture - Lot 872 for GNS42.000 by DARK ANGEL, as several of the chosen foals failed the vet or were to expensive.
On the fillies sied it was difficult to fill the order, as a new client for the agency wanted to buy one of the few choice fillies. After running into some good judges as Timmy Hyde and high profile buyers as Juddmonte Farms or Waratah Thoroughbreds and being delegated to the underbidder's role STAUFFENBERG BLOODSTOCK purchased Lot 1041 for GNS150.000, a close relative of GREY LILAS. She was purchased as racing and breeding prospect.
